 new airstream awning
Hi all, ref the new awning, would you be prepared to give up your zipdee in favour or an awning that will take you over half an hour to erect? The zipdee has to go unless you put the awning on the other side of the trailer, which I think rather defeats the point of an awning. To me the zipdee is an iconic part of an airstream. Any thoughts.

 Re: new airstream awning
Horses for courses really Alan. A full awning certainly isn't me as I move around so much. But to full-timers on a site for 3-4 weeks at a time then I think it would be invaluable. Naturally you could put the Zipdee on the offside. As for the 'image' thing, it's balancing the whole practicality vs aethetics argument. Once again, that's personal choice. It's not on my shopping list, but thereagain I don't really need one. And it looks rather complicated.

 Re: new airstream awning
I agree with you Alan. An Airstream is not an Airstream without a ZippDee.
As I'm full time though I could do with more room. Will wait to see before deciding for the future Airstream of choice.

An Airstream without a Zip Dee awning - hmmmmm
Agreed it is a personal choice but why hide one side of your silver trailer? Of all the thousands of posts and pics we've trawled through on the US forum, have never yet seen a full awning.
As fulltimers we find we can manage without one.

 Re: new airstream awning
Have both... Move the zipdee to the other side (then you can use the BBQ gas point!!! ) and have the awning on the door side? The Airstream has a channel on each side of the roof, technically you could have a zipdee on both sides!

Does anyone have any photos or more info on it? Was it shown at the NEC?

 Re: new airstream awning
Bag of worms this one, I have a zipdee on both sides, invaluable for shade in Europe as the sun moves around. An estimated price of over a thousand pounds for this awning and where do I store all these lovely curved poles? We are all trailer owners but have not been consulted on our needs ref an awning. Myself I require somewhere where I can get out of the weather and take off boots, waterproofs etc before entering the trailer and an area to store incidentals whilst parked for a few days. I may have my own solution at very little cost. I have found an awning in grey and silver with carbon fibre poles that can be erected in 15 mins that is curved and of a style that befits an Airstream. I have done the mesurements and would have to fit a piece of aluminium awning rail above the door. This is easily sourced. Indeed I agree with John that I do not want to hide the whole side of my Airstream hence I only want a porch awning. I will let you know and send pics when my awning arrives. If it dont work then my silence will be self explanatory. Alan

 Re: new airstream awning
Forgot to say, I have the sides and front for the zipdee and they are a waste of time and I feel that I am in a bird hide.

 Re: new airstream awning
Likewise Alan, I don't want a full awning and all the hassle and storage issues. I just need a porch canopy really. Big enough to store a bicycle and some outdoor items.
I did enter into some dialog with Isabella a year ago, they didn't have any money in the pot for R&D for an Airstream awning, I provided drawings, dimensions and photos and they were looking at modifying one of their existing models, nothing came of it. I think ASE also went down this route earlier and got the same response.
Best of luck with your idea and please keep us informed either way, at least it'll stop someone else making a bad investment if it doesn't work out?
